The problem is that sometimes there is no control and so it is difficult to tell if the results are actually due to the cause they praise so highly. It could be something else, and if the results can't be reproduced in another location or from year to year. We shouldn't keep spreading the rumors that they work. So what should we do, well we should test them...and that's exactly what I plan to do!
This coming spring (once my garden is relieved from it's frozen hibernation) this is exactly what I'll be doing. Not only will I test out watering with Gatorade to see if it actually helps plants through additional nitrogen and potassium (I'm actually really intrigued to see if this one works or not) but I will also look at the differences between things we are sure that work just to see the difference. How interesting would it be to see how much of a difference mulching actually makes...and what about competition from weeds, does that make a huge difference. I'll test them out being sure to plant both sides of the argument (treated with Gatorade etc. and without) so that the differences between the two can be accurately measured.
It's just another fun project I plan to start next spring and I'll be sure to keep you updated when I plant these gardens and of course all throughout the growing season. What I would like to know though, is if you know of any other household object that are supposed to help plants on their way. So if you've heard any tips or tricks that seem odd, or if you want to know how much of a difference something really makes then comment below and I'll add it to y list of things to try. I can't promise I'll get to all of them but I'll compare as many as I can!
