Now, Margaret always has some great articles and every time I stop by I can never get away with reading just one so I moved on to another with a headline of "a raised-bed garden survives ‘killer compost’". It intrigued me, compost is supposed to be good for your plants and your garden, why then would there be such thing as killer compost.
Reading on, it detailed the story of Joe Lamp'l's garden that he created this spring. When he added the soil, he mixed in compost which had chemical residues from herbicides that were causing deformations in his plants. luckily, I've never fared this same fate and I certainly hope I never do but what struck me the most was that his garden seemed so well planned out. He researched deer fences, location and more and yet he still ran into problems. It just goes to show that we don't have control in our garden. Mother nature will always be one step ahead of us. Maybe even two. Still though, his video detailing the creation of his garden has encouraged me to start planning big changes in my garden, the vegetable patch hasn't been a priority for quite some time and I believe it's time to change!! Let's just hope I don't end up using 'killer compost'!
