So lets start with the first point, why wouldn't a vegetable garden produce vegetables? Well, in my case, it doesn't because it produces so many weeds, and well, there's so many that each year the weeds sprint away from me and my efforts to stay on top of them and they grow to be as tall or taller than me! So this year, along with some great tools and a boatload of fresh enthusiasm and determination (along with some help from friends) my goal is keep the weeds down and actually produce a tomato or two!
The next is pretty obvious. Finish unfinished projects, that would be all fine and dandy if there weren't lets see, the teardrop bed, the small bed next to the oak, that other one near the maple, the two by the windows at the back, the patio and the bed next to it, the arbor entrance-way and the beds on either side of it. The walkway and adjacent beds to the driveway, the main front bed against the house, the overgrown bed near the walkway that heads to the front door, the echinacea bed behind the shed, the other two beds behind the shed, the garden by the backdoor, the three beds near the shop, the greenhouse and clearing the area where it is going to go, the bed in the very corner for sunflowers, the beds near the compost. Alright I'll stop but I'm nowhere near finished and neither are any of these projects, with 2.4 acres of garden their is plenty of work to do and my goal is to tackle as much as I can this year though even finishing just one of the projects listed would be a win in my books.
Alright, lets move on to things a little less stressful shall we, Garden Whimsy, what is it you ask, well it's a little garden fun. A hopscotch pathway, a recycled bottle garden, a bottle tree and anything else that interesting, fun or exciting. Here are a few more examples!
Next up on the list was organizing my tool shed which I think many of us can agree is a pain to keep organized, however, I have some great tools which I'd like to use more often but some days these can be difficult to find! So my goal is to clean it up and see whats in there and who knows, I may even find some things that can be made into garden whimsy!
The most important point on my list this year is to invite people and I can't stress using this enough if you have some work to do. I'll invite a friend over to help out (evil aren't I) and tackling the project together makes it much more fun and...gets it done faster. So this year, I'm hoping that inviting friends over will help me stay (get?) ahead and cross off a few of those unfinished projects even if I owe a friend or two a hand whenever they ask at the end of the day.
Lastly, the hammock, yes it may sound counterproductive and well...it might be but taking time to sit back and enjoy all that hard work is something us gardeners ought to do more often! After all we put all this work into making the yard look its best. So why not enjoy it properly relaxing in the middle of it, for a nap, to read a book, or my plan; to blog about my day!
